Break In?

If not, it sure looks like a failed attempt. This is one room I won't be spending the night in! I'll bet I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Restroom lights

A magic sponge would be very welcome here! Pay attention to everything in the restroom, your guests do!

Missing

In a welcome center--no paper towels, no wastebasket. Not very welcoming! To be honest, they did have paper towels in another location.

Ouch!

When the bed doesn't fit the bed frame, your guests can hit their legs...ouch!

More merchandise

Again, what city could I be in? You'd never guess by the choice in souvenirs.

Yawnedarumrnut?

translated...Do you want a room or not? This was actually a greeting I received when I walked in a well known hotel chain recently. The front desk associate was wearing a ball cap and overalls. He had nicotine stained fingers and a terrible attitude. This town was a well known university town, I find it difficult to believe there's not a college student who would portray the town in a more favorable light.

Doorknobs & Remotes

Doorknobs and remote controls are two of the dirtiest places in a hotel room, pay special attention to the places your guests put their hands. If it looks unsanitary, it probably is!

What city is known for birdhouse clocks?

You guessed it...not the one I'm in! Notice there a full shelf too...because they aren't selling. Choose your merchandise wisely. Are you known for music, celebrities or mountains? Make sure your gift shop mirrors what your traveler is actually there to see, and watch your sales increase!

What are you really selling?

Does the merchandise in your attraction tell the story? If not, why not? Tourists want a souvenir that they can identify with their visit....do you think the photo below tells a story?

A Place For It

You are looking at the inside door of a bathroom stall in a visitor's center. Notice the two holes? That's where a hook should be for a purse! Again, simple to fix and so important in a high traffic area.

Stickers

It's just lazy not to remove stickers from your furniture. When guests notice...you look bad.

Pay attention!

Pay attention to your thresholds! A coat of paint would work wonders here. Think about it. Where do the guests eyes go when they use the restroom? Put yourself in their place, literally!

Eyes up

In restaurants diner's eyes are concentrating on the menu, the meal or their companions...true, but don't ignore the ceiling. Water stains need to be taken care of. Leaks are a scary thing anywhere but especially where food is being prepared. The leak may be old, but the guest perception is now! Replace ceiling tiles, it's a cheap fix and can change your image.

Expect the unexpected

Yes! That's gum behind the headboard. Couldn't happen at my property? Yes it can. Have your staff look in all places before declaring the room clean.

Watch for this!

Attention to detail!
Hoteliers, teach your housekeeping staff to look for lampshades seams showing to the guest. It's an easy fix, turn them to the back side. Takes only a moment and really shows your room better.
